What to do when purchasing a carport!

When purchasing a carport there is a couple of things that you need to do before your purchase, today we are going to be talking about what those things are. First of all, make sure that you are getting a “certified unit” if you live within the county, certified units are units where you will need to pull a building permit. Units that are said to be certified come with certified wind ratings and snow loads rating, most of the time that rating is just enough to pass inspection or in the case of Carportsnsheds.com our units surpass that and come rated at 130 mph wind and 30 psf of snow. If you are one of the lucky few you may not need to pull anything, just make sure you talk to your local inspector: they will let you know if you are one of the lucky ones.

The next thing is to check with your local county to see If you will need to fill out an Environmental Health Site Evaluation Application (Perc Test). In addition, you will need to make sure that you are not going to build your carport over an existing natural spring or any major power lines, this is especially important when you are getting a concrete slab poured. in some cases, the county may require you to pull any of the following permits: Trade Permit, 911 Addressing Application, Well Permit, Zoning Permits, in cases where your land is zoned as commercial a commercial plan review application may need to be filed.

Finally, the only other thing to do is decide what size carport you want, Carports come in widths from 12 to 100 ft and there is no limit in the length, the height can be from 6 ft to 14 ft in standard units and 8 to 20 ft in larger units. Furthermore, you are able to select what gauge metal you want on your frame, that being 12 or 14 gauges. When It comes to the gauge the 14 is the thinnest of the 2 and come in 2 ½ x 2 ½ the 12 gauge is thicker but smaller in size at 2 ¼ x 2 ¼ make sure you do not get cheated as some smaller companies will replace the premium 14 gauge 2 ½ with cheaper 2 ¼ 14 gauge to save on cost, make sure that your 14 gauge is the correct size! at the very end you will select your style of carport to see the different style check out https://www.carportsnsheds.com/carports
